Police have recovered part of a consignment of tyres and motor vehicle spare parts stolen after four suspected robbers hijacked an Isuzu lorry along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway in Ndara.
The recovery followed a coordinated security operation involving officers from Maungu Police Station and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives, who conducted patrols across Izera Ranch and the Ndara area.
The robbery occurred at approximately 2am when a driver working for Soucesteel Company was transporting assorted tyres from Nairobi to Mombasa in an Isuzu FRR lorry, registration number KDW 062X.
According to the driver, a white Toyota Probox overtook his lorry before braking suddenly, forcing him to slow down. Four occupants then alighted, claiming the truck had hit their vehicle and demanding to inspect the alleged damage.
The suspects reportedly attacked the driver, forced him into the cabin and drove towards Mombasa before abandoning him in a thicket along a feeder road.
They escaped with the lorry and its cargo, alongside his mobile phone, Ksh6,000 and personal clothing.
Police later recovered 44 assorted tyres, 71 air, cabin and oil filters, and two PLC gaskets believed to be part of the stolen consignment.
The driver was escorted to Voi Police Station as investigations continue to trace the remaining goods and apprehend the suspects.
