CS Hanna Wendot Calls for Stronger Child Protection Data System

Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Children Services Hanna Wendot has called for stronger use of data in managing child protection cases across the country.

Wendot said reliable and timely information was important in identifying children at risk, coordinating interventions and ensuring they receive the necessary care and protection.

In a statement following a technical engagement with the team managing the Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS), the CS said the government was looking at ways to improve the platform and strengthen its use.

CPIMS is a government system that stores information on child protection cases across the country. It is used to document cases, track interventions and provide information to guide policies and programmes.

The platform also supports coordination between government agencies and non-state organisations involved in child protection work.

Wendot said discussions with the technical team focused on the system’s functionality, the quality of data collected and how child protection cases are handled.

The forum also considered approaches to enhance the utilization of the platform for service coordination and ensuring that the cases are handled effectively.

The CS explained that the government was committed to increasing institutional capacity and collaboration amongst the different organizations responsible for safeguarding the welfare of children.

She added that just gathering data was not sufficient, emphasizing the need for the data to ensure that the children get proper attention and protection.

This exercise is taking place against the backdrop of efforts by the government to improve the processes and mechanisms through which cases of children at risk are managed.
