Police in South Carolina have officially closed their investigation into the death of actress Hayden Panettiere, following a medical examiner’s determination that her death was accidental.

The “Heroes” and “Nashville” star died in August 16 from toxic effects of fentanyl, Xanax and several other drugs in her system at the age of 36.

The Greenville Police Department announced on October 28, its investigation had concluded after reviewing the medical examiner’s findings and the evidence gathered by investigators.

“Based on the Medical Examiner’s determination and the findings of the investigation, Hayden Panettiere’s death has been ruled accidental,” the police department said.

The medical findings identified the combined toxic effects of these substances as the cause of death. The publicly reported findings do not, by themselves, establish every detail about how the substances were obtained or taken.

Panettiere, had spoken openly about her struggles with substance abuse, was found unresponsive in a South Carolina residence on August 16.

The coroner’s office previously reported that the autopsy found no signs of physical trauma that would have contributed to Panettiere’s death.
