Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has urged Kenyans to explore local tourism destinations and protect the country’s natural heritage as Kenya marked the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations.
Miano joined President William Ruto and other Kenyans at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret City, Uasin Gishu County, to honour the heroes and heroines who sacrificed for the country’s freedom and nationhood.
In a statement shared on her official X account, the Cabinet Secretary said Kenya’s heritage, wildlife conservancies and cultural attractions remained important assets in showcasing the country’s identity and strengthening its tourism appeal.
She said the country’s development ambitions should go hand in hand with the protection of its natural resources and cultural heritage, which continue to attract visitors and position Kenya as a leading tourism destination in Africa.
“From our iconic wildlife conservancies to our vibrant cultural circuits, every corner of Magical Kenya reflects the resilience and spirit of our people,” Miano said.
The CS called on Kenyans to support domestic tourism by visiting destinations across the country, noting that exploring local attractions could help promote Kenya’s diverse landscapes, wildlife and cultural experiences.
She also emphasised the need to protect the country’s natural wonders, saying conservation efforts were essential to preserving the heritage that Kenya shares with the rest of the world.

Miano linked the Mashujaa Day celebrations to the broader responsibility of safeguarding the country’s legacy, saying the sacrifices of past and present heroes should inspire citizens to contribute to national unity and prosperity.
Mashujaa Day is observed annually on October 20 to honour individuals who played significant roles in Kenya’s struggle for independence and those whose contributions continue to advance the country’s development.
As Kenyans celebrate the country’s heroes and heroines, Miano urged citizens to take pride in their heritage, support local tourism and preserve the natural attractions that contribute to Kenya’s standing as a major tourism destination.
“Happy Mashujaa Day!” she said.
