Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho has expressed appreciation to leaders who attended the Youth and Women Empowerment Funds Drive in Nakuru, saying collective efforts to empower young people and women are essential to expanding economic opportunities and building an inclusive society.

Joho thanked the leaders for their participation and support during the event, which brought together political leaders and other participants around the agenda of youth and women empowerment. He said the initiative reflected a shared commitment to unlocking potential, creating opportunities and promoting prosperity.

“When we empower our youth and women, we empower Kenya,” Joho said in a statement shared on his official social media account.

The Cabinet Secretary also commended Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika for hosting the event and for her continued commitment to development in the region.

Several Members of Parliament attended the funds drive, including David Gikaria of Nakuru Town East, Zaheer Jhanda of Nyaribari Chache, Phelix Odiwuor of Langata, Japheth Nyakundi of Kitutu Chache North and Irene Njoki of Bahati.

Joho thanked the legislators for joining the initiative, describing their participation as part of a collective effort to advance opportunities for young people and women.

Businessman Sam Mburu and Abubakar Joho were also acknowledged for attending and supporting the occasion.

The gathering brought together leaders from different constituencies, highlighting the role of collaboration in advancing empowerment initiatives. However, details on the total funds raised, the specific financial commitments made and the beneficiaries targeted were not provided in Joho’s announcement.

Youth and women empowerment initiatives are aimed at improving access to opportunities that can support livelihoods, entrepreneurship and economic participation. Their impact often depends on the availability of funding, transparent allocation processes and support that enables beneficiaries to establish or expand sustainable enterprises.

Joho’s remarks placed emphasis on the need for leaders to work together in supporting programmes that unlock the potential of young people and women.

The Cabinet Secretary’s appreciation to the participating leaders also underscored the importance of partnerships between national and county leadership, elected representatives and other stakeholders in pursuing development initiatives.

The Nakuru funds drive comes amid continued attention to economic empowerment as a means of expanding participation in business and improving livelihoods. Further details on the programme’s funding targets, implementation plans and expected beneficiaries would clarify the scale of support intended for young people and women.
