Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that 1,977 housing units are under construction in Kiambu Town under the government’s Housing Fund programme, with the project valued at Sh5.2 billion.
Kindiki said the development was part of wider housing investments in Kiambu County, where projects under the Housing Fund are valued at Sh52 billion.
Speaking in Kiambu Town on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the Deputy President highlighted the housing programme alongside major infrastructure and education projects, describing the area as an important economic link to Nairobi.
“With many residents of Kiambu Town commuting for work and business to and from Nairobi daily, Kiambu town and Nairobi city have close proximity and intertwined business and trade ties,” Kindiki said.

The 1,977 housing units represent a significant investment in residential development in a town whose proximity to Nairobi has contributed to its role as a residential and commercial centre.
The project forms part of the government’s broader affordable housing agenda, which seeks to increase the supply of homes while supporting activity in the construction sector.
Across Kiambu County, the Sh52 billion investment in Housing Fund projects points to a wider programme of residential development and related infrastructure. However, details on the individual projects included in the countywide figure, their completion timelines and the allocation of the homes were not provided in Kindiki’s statement.
The Deputy President also announced that the former Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology had been elevated to a National Polytechnic. A student accommodation hostel with a capacity of 1,740 beds is under construction at the institution at a cost of Sh672 million.
The education investment is expected to expand accommodation facilities for students as the institution develops its role in technical and vocational training.
On transport infrastructure, Kindiki said the government had awarded the Sh29.2 billion contract for the dualling of the Muthaiga Roundabout–Kiambu Town road, with the contractor expected to commence works.
The road project is intended to improve connectivity between Kiambu Town and Nairobi, a corridor used by residents travelling for work, business and other daily activities.
Addressing residents, Kindiki urged them to support the government’s development agenda and called for an end to violence, division and political insults.
The housing project will be assessed through its implementation, delivery timelines and the extent to which the completed units meet the intended housing needs of residents.
Further details on the eligibility criteria, pricing and expected completion date for the 1,977 homes were not included in the Deputy President’s announcement.
