NTSA Urges Motorists to Check for Uncollected Licences, Logbooks and Number Plates

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged motorists to check its online portal for driving licences, vehicle logbooks and reflective number plates that are ready for collection, warning them against brokers asking for payment.

In a notice issued on Monday, October 12, the authority said motorists could check the status of their documents for free without registering on the portal.

Those checking for smart driving licences need to enter their national identity numbers, while vehicle and motorcycle owners can use their registration numbers to find out whether their logbooks and number plates are ready.

“Checking the status of your smart driving licence and number plates is free; do not deal with brokers,” NTSA said.

The portal also shows the collection centre where a document is available, allowing motorists to confirm where they need to go before visiting NTSA offices.

Motorists experiencing delays or other problems with their driving licences, logbooks and number plates can also submit complaints through the platform.

NTSA said it sends feedback to the email address provided by applicants when their complaints have been resolved.

“Feedback to clients upon resolution of complaints/concerns is sent through the email address provided by the client at the point of submission via the portal,” the authority added.

The notice comes as NTSA continues to encourage motorists to use its official platforms when seeking services, rather than relying on middlemen who may charge them to process or speed up applications.

On Thursday, October 8, the authority announced a service that allows motorists to have their driving licences processed and collected in under two minutes, in a move aimed at reducing waiting times at its offices.

NTSA has also introduced SMS notifications for vehicle ownership transfers, allowing applicants to receive updates directly on their registered phone numbers as their applications progress.

“All transfer service notifications are sent straight to your phone via SMS,” the authority said.

Motorists applying for ownership transfers have been advised to monitor the messages for updates on their applications.
