A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to force his way into the restricted area of State House in Nairobi while driving a tuk-tuk.
The incident happened on Sunday afternoon at Gate D, which is manned by General Service Unit (GSU) officers.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 1:32pm on October 4 after officers noticed the man allegedly attempting to gain entry into the restricted area.
The officers ordered him to stop, but police said he allegedly ignored the instructions and continued driving towards barriers near the gate.
He was intercepted and arrested before gaining access to the restricted area.
Police said the suspect told officers during questioning that he wanted to meet President William Ruto.
However, he did not have an appointment to see the President.
The man was placed in custody as police launched investigations to establish more about his intentions and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Security operations were subsequently heightened around the area following the incident.
Gate D has previously been the scene of a security incident. In October 2025, GSU officer Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka was killed in an attack at the same gate. A suspect, Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi, is facing a murder charge over the incident.
Police have not indicated that the latest incident was connected to the earlier attack.
The circumstances surrounding the man’s alleged attempt to access the State House compound remain under investigation.
