The Government has outlined ongoing development projects in Nyeri County, including roads, healthcare, electricity, markets and agricultural initiatives, as it seeks to improve services and livelihoods in the region.
Speaking to residents of Tetu Constituency in Ihururu on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki said construction and tarmacking of 775 kilometres of roads was underway at a cost of Sh45 billion.
He said the agriculture sector is also receiving support through subsidised fertiliser, cheaper certified maize seeds, reduced prices of sexed semen and continued distribution of milk coolers.
The interventions, officials said, have contributed to improved agricultural productivity, while coffee earnings have tripled over the past three years.
According to Kindiki, Nyeri County is among the top five counties nationally in SHA medical cover registration. The Government is also upgrading Mwai Kibaki Level 6 Hospital and Nyeri PGH Level 5 Hospital at a cost of Sh1 billion each.
An additional Sh650 million is being invested to connect 12,000 households to electricity, including 2,000 homes in Tetu at a cost of Sh89 million.
The Ihururu Fresh Produce Market is under construction as part of Sh17 billion worth of markets, housing and student accommodation projects across Nyeri. A further Sh5 billion in projects is at planning or procurement stage.
Kindiki was joined by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Nyeri Town MP Dancun Mathenge, MCAs and other leaders.
