American singer Taylor Swift etched her name into music history, setting a new record at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
The singer-songwriter took the stage with a night tied with Beyonce on 30 wins, scoring the night’s top award for the visuals for her track “The Fate of Ophelia,” from her 2025 album “The Life of a Showgirl.”
She received the inaugural award for artist director, having written and directed the glitzy and theatrical “Ophelia” music video herself. She also dedicated her new awards to the “ultimate showgirl.”
“I think we were all very lucky to share this planet with Dolly Parton for a time,” Swift said.
At the occasion, she not only celebrated her achievement but also premiered the music video for her latest single “Patient Zero.”
The MTV VMAs awards also awarded female artist Madonna, together with her team, who won for the best cinematography and choreography for the film “Confession II.”
Accepting the prize, Madonna reminisced how her manager scolded her backstage at the very first MTV awards show, where she briefly addressed the audience.
“My Manger said my career was over. For now, he isn’t my manager anymore,” Madonna said.
Swift’s first VMAs award was in 2008, where she has received 85 total nominations over the years.
