Kenya Power has posted a KSh24.99 billion profit after tax for the financial year ended June 30, 2026, marking a KSh522 million increase from the previous year.

The 2.13 per cent growth was supported by higher electricity sales, improved network efficiency and lower finance costs.

Stephen Vikiru, Kenya Power General Manager for Finance, said the results reflected progress in strengthening the company’s financial and operational position.

“We recorded a 2.13% increase in Profit After Tax to KShs. 24.99 billion, representing a KShs. 522 million increase in the financial year ended 30 June 2026,” Vikiru said.

Electricity revenue increased by 8.6 per cent to KSh238.2 billion, while electricity sales rose by 12 per cent to 12,777 gigawatt-hours.

The company also connected 411,710 new customers during the year, taking its total customer base to about 10.4 million.

Kenya Power’s transmission and distribution efficiency improved to 81.4 per cent from 78.8 per cent in the previous financial year.

The utility attributed the improvement to continued investment in the electricity network and efforts to reduce system losses.

The company also recorded a reduction in its debt position. Total borrowings fell to KSh79.8 billion from about KSh87.6 billion, while finance costs dropped by KSh1.6 billion to KSh3.1 billion.

Kenya Power said its net working capital also improved, moving from a negative KSh19.2 billion to a positive KSh1.9 billion during the year.

The company invested KSh28 billion in capital projects during the period, with the funds supporting network expansion, reinforcement and modernisation.

The improved performance has also been reflected in the proposed shareholder payout.

The board has recommended a final dividend of KSh1.20 per share. Combined with the KSh0.30 interim dividend already paid, shareholders could receive KSh1.50 per share for the financial year, subject to approval.

The proposed full-year dividend is higher than the KSh1 paid to shareholders in the previous financial year.

Kenya Power said the results demonstrate continued progress in strengthening its balance sheet while improving the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply across the country.
