Police in Nairobi have arrested an 18-year-old woman after she was allegedly found attempting to smuggle tools into Ruai Police Station, where three remanded suspects are being held.
Christine Njoki Gitau had reportedly visited the station asking for permission to visit Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa, and Brian Gatheru, who are being held in custody for robbery with violence and gang rape.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that entered the station Gitau with a plate of rice, claiming it was a meal for the three suspects.
However, officers conducting the usual checks on the food brought into the station found a pair of pliers and a shear, which had been hidden underneath the meal.
These tools were suspected most likely to be used by the three men to escape from the custody.
Gitau was immediately taken into custody. Police started investigations at the same time on the plot as well as whether there were any other people that could have been involved.
The three men are alleged to have managed an anonymous TikTok account, used to lure young women into meetings before robbing and sexually assaulting them.
The DCI has warned that aiding or attempting to facilitate an escape from lawful custody is an extreme criminal offence that will lead to legal consequences.
