Four suspects have been arrested in Nairobi following allegations that a group posing as the “Nyamakima Business Community” extorted foreign traders in the Nyamakima area.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were allegedly part of a group of about 30 people led by ring leader Runnalice Nyambura Nganga, which visited several businesses operated by foreign nationals on September 7, 2026.

At one business, the group allegedly demanded to inspect the company’s business permit, KRA compliance certificate and directors’ details before ordering the immediate closure of the premises over alleged lack of documentation.

The group reportedly demanded Sh300,000 to allow the business to continue operating.

They later moved to another electrical appliances outlet, where they allegedly demanded an additional Sh200,000.
The incidents were reported to police, prompting officers to intervene and arrest four suspects.

Those arrested are Peter Macharia Gatene, Runnalice Nyabura Nganga, Lawrence Ireri Karani and Josephat Mburu Kamau.

The suspects remain in custody as police process them for arraignment.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of the alleged extortion scheme and identify other individuals who may have been involved.

The DCI has warned against using threats or intimidation to extort money from members of the public.
