Kenyan MC and entertainer MC Gogo has called on Kenyans to show support for local artists by attending their concert with the same energy and commitment they demonstrate for international shows and Amapiano events.
His call comes amid growing concern that foreign genres like Amapiano consistently attract massive crowds, while local musicians sometimes struggle to fill venues.
“The last time I saw such a huge turnout in Kenya ni SolFest ya last year. Si tupatie our Kenyan artists the same support tunapatia wasanii wan je,” Gogo said.
He believes Kenyan artists should also benefit from the same energy when they organize concerts and other major shows. He also appealed for the importance of fans supporting Kenyan musicians beyond streaming their songs or following them on social media.
He further emphasized the need for a strong domestic market that will build sustainable careers and expand their reach beyond the country.
He said supporting them gives audiences an opportunity to strengthen the creative industry that contributes to the country’s cultural identity. He argued successful artists should support and create pathways for young performers who are trying to enter the industry.
Gogo said Kenyans are always willing to spend money, travel and queue for hours when they believe an event is worth it.
MC Gogo noted many local artists rely on club appearances, smaller events and corporate shows instead of headline concerts where thousands of fans turn up specifically to see them.
His remarks come after Nairobi witnessed a major music spectacle at Uhuru Gardens during The Most Wanted & Friends Africa Live Tour on August 29, an event that brought artists such as Scotts Maphuma, Dlala Thukzin,Nkosazana Daughter, GL Ceejay, Thukuthela and JazzWRLD.
