Kenya is moving to strengthen its digital identity ecosystem as the government seeks to make access to public and private-sector services more secure, seamless and citizen-centred.
Cabinet Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy William Kabogo held discussions with a delegation from IN Groupe, led by Vice President for Sales and Business Development (Government Programs), Celine Gouveia.
The discussions focused on developing a national digital identity authentication platform that would allow Kenyans to securely access government and private-sector services using a trusted digital identity.
According to Kabogo, the platform is expected to reduce repeated verification processes and unnecessary submission of personal information when accessing different services.
The CS also emphasised the need for coordinated governance of Kenya’s digital public infrastructure, with the Ministry providing overarching coordination while individual ministries and agencies continue managing their respective services.
Kabogo said interoperability would help eliminate duplication and maximise value from technology investments.
The government further stressed the importance of building public trust in digital identity and government digital services, while ensuring value for money in ICT procurement through consideration of lifecycle costs, interoperability and proven solutions.
