Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has appointed lawyer Ndegwa Njiru as the party’s new spokesperson in a fresh reshuffle of its leadership.
The changes were announced on Friday, August 7, as Kalonzo moves to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Njiru, a vocal lawyer and political ally of Kalonzo, will now take charge of communicating the party’s position on political and national issues.
Kalonzo also appointed former Cabinet minister and former MP Jamleck Kamau as the new Wiper chairman.
Nyali MP Mohamed Ali was named the party’s deputy leader.
Kalonzo said Kamau’s long experience in politics made him suitable to take up the chairmanship as the party prepares for the next election.
“Jamleck has spent 30 years building coalitions, balancing budgets and holding political formations together under pressure. That is precisely the discipline Wiper needs,” Kalonzo said.
The appointment of Njiru is likely to attract attention given his growing involvement in Kalonzo’s political activities and his outspoken defence of the Wiper leader.
Njiru has in recent months emerged as a strong supporter of Kalonzo’s 2027 presidential bid. He has argued that the Wiper leader has the experience and constitutional credentials needed to lead the country.
The lawyer has also been involved in several high profile political and legal battles.
In July, Njiru was arrested over an alleged traffic offence but was later released after the Director of Public Prosecutions declined to approve the charges prepared against him.
His new role now places him at the centre of Wiper’s public communication as Kalonzo seeks to position the party for the 2027 race.
Wiper has already presented itself as a national political vehicle, with Kalonzo previously saying the party would field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 elections.
The latest appointments signal a renewed effort by the party to strengthen its leadership structure as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election.
