The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into the fatal shooting of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
The DCI said the incident occurred in the morning, prompting police officers and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives to respond, secure and process the scene. Investigators recovered and documented forensic exhibits for analysis and interviewed witnesses as they began piecing together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
According to preliminary findings, Dr Mutiso had requested an Uber ride when she sustained fatal gunshot injuries. The circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear and are the subject of an active investigation.
Detectives also visited the medical facility where Dr Mutiso had been taken following the incident.
A team of homicide detectives from DCI Headquarters, supported by forensic experts, has taken over the case. The team is pursuing several investigative leads, including following up on persons of interest, in an effort to establish what happened and identify those responsible.
The DCI expressed condolences to Dr Mutiso’s family, relatives and friends, pledging to conduct a thorough, impartial and professional investigation.
The agency has urged the public to avoid speculation and sharing unverified information that could interfere with the ongoing investigations.
