Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry Lee Kinyanjui has urged leaders to shield young people from political manipulation and violence, emphasizing that their energy and talents should be directed towards nation-building rather than destruction.
Speaking during the 21st Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) Plenary Assembly at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Kinyanjui said the country’s youth should never be used to advance political interests at the expense of peace and stability.
“Our young people must never become instruments of violence or be misused to advance the political ambitions of others. Their energy, creativity and patriotism should be harnessed to build the nation, not destroy it,” Kinyanjui said.
He noted that religious institutions continue to play a vital role in instilling values, promoting integrity and nurturing responsible citizens, particularly among the youth.
The Cabinet Secretary called for stronger collaboration between government and faith-based organizations to create opportunities that encourage young people to embrace dialogue, peaceful coexistence and productive engagement.
“The Church remains one of the most important institutions in shaping values, nurturing responsible citizens and guiding young people towards peaceful coexistence, integrity and hope,” he added.
Kinyanjui attended the assembly alongside Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi. Also present were AMECEA Chairman Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde, Bishop of Solwezi in Zambia, Vice Chairman Most Rev. Antony Muheria, and other clergy and leaders from across the region.
