Agnes Jebet Ng’etich delivered a historic performance after winning the women’s 3000m at the Monaco Diamond League, clocking in at 8:08.95.
That time only secured her the win but etched her name into history as the third fastest woman ever to complete the 3000m over the distance.
Ng’etich sits only behind the long-standing world record holder Wang Junxia 8:06.11.
At the Monaco Diamond League, Emmanuel Wanyonyi set a world record of 1000m in 2:11.83 in in the men’s race, while Simon Koech delivered a commanding performance in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, clocking 8:03.35.
In that moment, President William Ruto sent a congratulatory message to Agnes Jebet Ng’etich and Simon Koech for their outstanding victory at the Monaco Diamond League and for representing Kenya as good ambassadors on the global stage.
