Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya received a comprehensive briefing on Kenya’s bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championship from the Bid Committee led by the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei and former marathon champion Ibrahim Hussein.
Kenya known and celebrated for its cradle of world -class runners have produced Olympic champions and record-breaking athletes who have dominating on global tracks and Kenya’s official bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships will boost and motivate the athletes.

Hosting the 2029 World Athletics Championship will mark a historic milestone for the continent, showcasing world-class athletes’ heritage while enhancing tourism, attracting investment and strengthening the country’s global sporting profile.
Mvurya stated that the government remains fully committed to supporting the bid, assurance Kenya is prepared to mobilize resources, rally stakeholders and present a compelling case to the world.
Kenya securing the 2029 Championships will require intense lobbying, good infrastructure and strong international confidence, as well as discipline and athletic legacy from the Bid Committee.
