MIGORI, Kenya – Two suspected drug traffickers have been arrested after police recovered 114 rolls of cannabis sativa during an intelligence-led operation in Migori County.

The suspects, identified as Luke Okello, 35, and Steve Odero, 28, were intercepted by officers from Migori Police Station while allegedly transporting the narcotics along Migori Road in the Namba area of Suna West Sub-County.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operation followed a tip-off from members of the public, prompting officers to launch a coordinated operation that led to the suspects’ arrest.

Police said the duo was travelling on a Boxer Bajaj motorcycle, registration number KMEZ 125V, when they were stopped by officers. Investigators believe the suspects attempted to evade detection by concealing the cannabis beneath oversized jackets, with the rolls strapped to their bodies.

A search conducted at the scene revealed that Odero was carrying 37 rolls of cannabis, while Okello had 77 rolls, bringing the total haul to 114 rolls.

“The officers intercepted the duo, who were boldly ferrying a stash of cannabis sativa on a motorcycle registration number KMEZ 125V, Boxer Bajaj, along the busy Migori Road,” the DCI said in a statement.

The two suspects were arrested and taken to Migori Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court.

Police also seized the recovered narcotics and the motorcycle used to transport them. The items will be presented as exhibits during the court proceedings.

The DCI has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged members of the public to continue sharing information that can help law enforcement agencies disrupt the illegal narcotics trade.
