United Democratic Alliance Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan has restated Kenya’s commitment towards enhancing the integration of the East African Community (EAC) and the political federation of the region as the long-term vision.
Sen. Hassan, who also serves as a Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the newly appointed EAC Secretary General Amb. Stephen Patrick Mbundi at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, ahead of the Community’s Budget Speech for the Financial Year 2026/27.
Amb. Mbundi stated his priorities to include trade and infrastructure towards moving the Region and the Community to the next level. Amb. Mbundi proposed that the Community needs to explore alternative and creative ways to fund the work of the Community and finance the Region’s Infrastructure ambition.
During the meeting, Sen. Hassan conveyed President William Ruto’s continued commitment to the EAC and highlighted Kenya’s determination to honour its obligations under the EAC Treaty.
The senator further pointed out that UDA’s stance is based on Pan-African solidarity and collective efforts to resolve challenges facing not only the East African region but also the entire African continent.
The talks came when the EAC partner states are continuing with their efforts to seek the deepest economic integration, improved trade flows and enhanced connectivity as major drivers of the regional growth.
Kenya’s Consul, General in Arusha, H. E Mohamed Ramadhan Ruwange accompanied Senator Hassan.
