The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested an auditor attached to the North Rift Valley Development Water Agency over allegations of soliciting a KSh400,000 bribe from a contractor in exchange for a favourable audit report.

In a statement, EACC identified the suspect as Michael Maleya Omondi.

According to the Commission, the arrest followed a complaint from a contractor who alleged that the auditor had demanded money to influence the outcome of an ongoing audit exercise.

EACC investigators launched an operation in Eldoret after receiving the complaint. The suspect was reportedly arrested after receiving KSh400,000 from the complainant.

Following the arrest, Omondi was processed at the EACC North Rift Regional Office before being released on a cash bail of KSh100,000 pending the completion of investigations and further action.

The anti-graft agency reiterated its commitment to promoting accountability, transparency and integrity in the management of public affairs, warning public officers against engaging in corrupt practices.

The case adds to a series of anti-corruption operations undertaken by EACC as it intensifies efforts to combat bribery and abuse of office within public institutions.
