Ruto in Wajir Madaraka Day 2026

President William Ruto has pledged increased government investment in roads, schools, healthcare and water infrastructure across Northern Kenya as part of efforts to address decades of underdevelopment in the region.

Speaking during the 63rd Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir, the President said his administration is committed to ensuring that communities in Northern Kenya receive the infrastructure and public services necessary to unlock their economic potential.

Ruto noted that years of neglect had left many parts of the region without adequate roads, reliable water supply, quality healthcare facilities and educational institutions, limiting opportunities for residents.

“We are committed to correcting these historical injustices by investing in projects that directly improve the lives of our people,” he said.

The Head of State said the government’s development agenda focuses on connecting remote communities to markets through improved road networks while expanding access to clean water, healthcare and education.

He emphasized that development should not be determined by geography, adding that every Kenyan deserves equal access to opportunities and public services.

Ruto pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects in Northern Kenya, saying they are part of a broader strategy to integrate the region more fully into the national economy.

The President also described the hosting of Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir as a symbol of the government’s commitment to inclusion and equitable development.
