Principal Secretary for Public Health Mary Muthoni has urged Kenyans to strengthen hygiene and disease prevention measures as the country heightens Ebola preparedness. The government has intensified surveillance, border screening and isolation facilities despite Kenya recording no confirmed Ebola cases so far

During a Sensitization Forum for Community Health Promoters held in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, PS Muthoni stated that the government is ready to protect the citizens of Kenya from the lethal virus by strengthening the preventive measures and public health systems.

PS pointed out that hygiene and infection prevention together with supporting health workers can contribute in making Kenya a resilient country against health emergencies.

According to Muthoni, Community Health Promoters are important in sharing preventive health messages and encouraging people to take early diagnostic tests. Aligned with Kenya Kwanza emphasis on prevention and healthcare for all under the third quarter of UDA Party Manifesto, Muthoni praised Community Health Promoters for their ongoing work to take healthcare even to the remotest locations.

She mentioned government’s efforts to put all steps of medical care onto a digital platform and the supply of necessary medical items which lead to healthcare being of a higher standard, more available and efficient.

Besides that, Muthoni called on Community Health Promoters to be responsible for the service of 100 families each to effectively monitor, ensure preventive health at a high level, and deliver services in communities.

Further, PS extended sympathy to the relatives of the victims of the tragic event at Utumishi School and reconfirmed Ministry of Health’s commitment to availability of healthcare services to all Kenyans without any breaks.

Recent Ebola outbreaks in certain neighboring areas have led to Kenya going on high alert and the health departments aren’t only keeping an eye on things but are also encouraging people to follow health guidelines.
