Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano has highlighted Kenya’s growing sports tourism potential during the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Innovation and Investor Summit held in Kigali, Rwanda.
The summit, graced by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, brought together government officials, investors and sports stakeholders from across Africa to discuss opportunities in sports infrastructure, entertainment and economic growth.
Representing the Government of Kenya, CS Miano joined fellow ministers from Ghana, South Africa and Rwanda in a panel discussion focusing on the close relationship between sports and tourism and their role in driving economic transformation across the continent.
Miano said sports in Kenya go beyond competition, describing the sector as a major investment that creates jobs, empowers youth and contributes significantly to the country’s economy.
She noted that Kenyan athletes continue to serve as key tourism ambassadors, with their global achievements helping to market Kenya internationally and attract visitors to the country.
The Cabinet Secretary invited investors and innovators attending the summit to explore opportunities in Kenya, saying the government is committed to developing sports infrastructure and expanding investment in tourism and entertainment sectors.
Miano further stated that under the leadership of William Ruto, Kenya is positioning itself as a leading destination for sports business and tourism partnerships in Africa.
She emphasized that Africa’s sports ecosystem is rapidly growing and that Kenya is ready to take a leading role in shaping the future of sports-driven economic development on the continent.
