The National Taskforce for the Mpox Response convened in Nairobi to strategize containment efforts, including Marburg.
Mr. Dickson Sikuku, Director of Planning in the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards opened the meeting on behalf of Principal Secretary Ms. Mary Muthoni, the meeting brought together representatives from the WHO, Africa CDC, various ministries, and key partners.
Dr. Nicholas Muraguri, Vice Chair of the Mpox Taskforce, emphasized the importance of proper coordination among all stakeholders to effectively manage these outbreaks.
“We must work together seamlessly to ensure that our response is swift and effective.” He stated.
Dr. Sultan Matendechero, the Incident Management Lead, thanked members of the Taskforce for their commitment and called for the expansion of the Taskforce to include a whole-of-government approach.
He emphasized that aligning incident management pillars is crucial for clarity moving forward.
“Clear communication and coordination are essential for our success in this response.” he stated
As of now, Kenya has reported 12 confirmed cases of Mpox and has issued an alert regarding a Marburg outbreak in Rwanda. This is a critical time for all of us to stay informed and vigilant.
