Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy William Kabogo has appeared before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation to present the Ministry’s 2026/2027 Budget Estimates and outline priority programmes for the upcoming financial year.

In a statement issued after the session, Kabogo said the ministry highlighted its achievements and financial performance while also expressing concern over reduced external financing expected to affect several flagship digital projects.

According to the CS, some of the programmes likely to feel the impact of reduced funding include the Last Mile County Connectivity Project (LMCCP) and the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP), both considered critical in expanding digital access and connectivity across the country.

“I highlighted the Ministry’s achievements and financial performance, while raising concerns over reduced external financing, which is expected to affect key programmes such as the Last Mile County Connectivity Project (LMCCP) and the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP),” Kabogo said.

Kabogo, however, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), particularly through the Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy pillars.

The ICT CS told lawmakers that the ministry remains focused on strengthening digital infrastructure, improving access to communication services and supporting innovation-driven economic growth.

The ministry continues to execute its mandate through the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications as well as the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy in collaboration with state agencies under the sector.

Some of the agencies working with the ministry include the Communications Authority of Kenya, ICT Authority, Konza Technopolis, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and the Postal Corporation of Kenya.
