National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has dismissed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claim that President William Ruto is behind his impeachment.

During a presser at his Karen home on Monday, October 7, Gachagua sensationally claimed it was President Ruto who sanctioned his ouster.

However, speaking to NTV, Ichung’wah insisted that MPs don’t need the approval of the president or anybody in the Executive to impeach anyone.

The Kikuyu MP said the lawmakers are exercising their mandate independently and in accordance with the 2010 Constitution.

'We do not need permission from the president, MPs perform their oversight roles per the constitution. President William Ruto has not appended his sign to impeach Gachagua, and he will not sign the motion after he is impeached. This is not a bill that will require the signature of Ruto," said Gachagua.

Ichung’wah said he signed the impeachment motion against Gachagua after reading it carefully and was not coerced, as some quarters think.
