Kenyans from diaspora have sent home at least Ksh 58.15billion in March 2026, marking the highest monthly remittance inflow recorded this year, according to data from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

The figures show an increase of 9.1 percent from Ksh 53.31billion received in February 2026, while the previous month of January was Ksh 52.65billion. The month of March made a cumulative flow of Ksh 655.9 billion an increase of 2.2 percent compared to the year of 2025 that recorded Ksh 642.1 billion.

The Central Bank of Kenya has described the remittances as steady and reflecting a growth in the country’s critical streams of foreign exchange earnings.

Despite the strong remittance inflows, Kenya’s foreign exchange has shown a decline in the recent weeks. CBK figures show Ksh 1.718 trillion as of April 16, down from Ksh 1.813 trillion on March 26 and Ksh 1.845 trillion on March 18.

According to CBK, North America, particularly the United States remains the main source of remittance followed by Europe and a rising contribution from Gulf countries as more Kenyans leave for a job opportunities.

CBK continues to overlook diaspora remittances as the main pillar of the economic stability, with sustained inflows expected to help support the Kenyan shilling and economic growth.
