Kenya is stepping up preparations to host the 11th Our Ocean Conference (#OOC11), with high-level diplomatic and technical consultations taking place in London ahead of the global summit scheduled for 16–18 June 2026 in Mombasa and Kilifi.
The High Commissioner at the Kenya Mission in the United Kingdom received Principal Secretary for Blue Economy and Fisheries Betsy Njagi for a courtesy call focused on advancing Kenya’s ocean agenda and international partnerships.
During the visit, the PS—accompanied by High Commissioner Maurine Makoloo—held consultations with the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Trade, Oceans and Natural Resources team ahead of key engagements on the margins of the upcoming conference.
Kenya, in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat, is set to convene a Commonwealth Ocean Ministers Roundtable at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa, to be chaired by Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho.
The meeting will focus on advancing ocean action, implementation of the Apia Commonwealth Ocean Declaration, the BBNJ Agreement, mobilisation of blue finance, and strengthening global partnerships for ocean conservation.
The PS also held engagements with the Our Ocean Conference Secretariat at the World Resources Institute in London and participated in a virtual briefing with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry to review progress in preparations for the conference, which will be the first time the global summit is hosted on African soil.
