Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has accused senior government officials of misleading Kenyans over the recent rise in fuel prices, saying citizens were given false assurances about stability in the sector.
Sifuna claimed that public officers are under legal obligation not to give false or misleading information, arguing that recent statements on fuel prices did not reflect the reality faced by consumers.
He cited earlier assurances that government interventions had helped stabilize fuel prices, saying Kenyans were later hit by a significant increase in pump prices shortly afterwards.
“We can’t even discuss Jofri’s party as far as Ol Kalao is concerned. Jofri tried everything he could to stop Jubilee winning that seat in 2022. Jofri is still in UDA. His key supporters are still in UDA. Jofri is only in the opposition by ‘mouth’,Wambugu said.
The senator blamed the government for the rising cost burden, arguing that the public has been left to bear the impact of what he termed as policy failure in the energy sector.
Sifuna further criticized recent explanations from government-linked experts on the fuel situation, accusing them of issuing contradictory statements.
He maintained that responsibility for the rising fuel prices lies squarely with the national leadership, saying the cost of living crisis continues to deepen for ordinary Kenyans.
