Kenya is set to host officials from the Recording Academy behind the prestigious Grammy Awards, in a move the government says will position the country as a key hub for music development in Africa.
Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi announced that the President of the Recording Academy is expected to visit Kenya before June as part of ongoing engagements to establish a presence in the country.

According to Itumbi, the initiative is part of a broader plan to grow the quality and global competitiveness of Kenyan music by linking local talent with international platforms.
“The Grammy Awards are another product of this President. The President of the Recording Academy and Grammy Awards will be here before June, and we will settle this question once and for all,” he said.
He revealed that discussions are underway to set up a regional base either at Konza Technopolis or Talanta Stadium, a move expected to boost the country’s creative economy.
Itumbi further disclosed that Kenya emerged successful in a competitive bid involving four countries, positioning itself as a gateway to the African music market.
“The US has Grammys, they are looking for the African market, four countries offered, only us paid and therefore we won the bid,” he added.
