The Kenya Wildlife Service has announced a new offer that will see some students access national parks for free before the April school holidays.
In a notice released on Tuesday, KWS announced that for every 100 students accessing the national parks, 10 will access the facilities for free. The offer will be made to school excursions across all national parks, game reserves, and national sanctuaries in the country.
The offer is meant to encourage schools to plan educational excursions and give students a chance to experience the wildlife of Kenya. The offer is open to all students from nursery schools to university level. KWS also announced that children aged below six years will also access the national parks for free.
The offer will be in place from March 1st to June 30th, 2026. The offer will give schools enough time to plan excursions before the upcoming school holiday.
KWS encouraged schools to take advantage of the offer, saying that it is a great opportunity for them to learn outside the classroom.
“Take up the Wild Scholars offer and turn the last days of the school term into a memorable experience. The wild is waiting,” KWS added.
The more students a school presents, the more free slots they will be allocated.
This is not the first time KWS has offered such a promotion. In the past, the agency has offered free entrance to different national parks during special occasions like World Tourism Day.
Usually, students pay between Ksh200 and Ksh750 to visit different national parks in the country. The money varies depending on the location of the national parks. However, this time around, students will pay less, thus making such trips more enjoyable for them.
The KWS hopes that through this, more young people will get a chance to interact with nature, hence boosting local tourism.
