The family of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno has endorsed veteran politician Robert Leguta to contest the upcoming by-election in the Rift Valley constituency.

Led by Mary Temas, the mother of the late lawmaker, the family announced that they had settled on Leguta as their preferred candidate, citing his experience and ability to advance Ng’eno’s legacy.

The endorsement follows the unexpected withdrawal of Ng’eno’s widow, Nayanoi Ng’eno, from the race, a move that has significantly altered the dynamics of the by-election.

Speaking during a press briefing in Eldoret, Temas said the decision was reached after consultations, expressing confidence in Leguta’s leadership.

“After careful consultations and prayers, we believe Robert Leguta is the right candidate to continue the work that my son began. We ask all supporters to unite behind him for the good of our people,” she said.

Leguta, a former legislator and long-serving community figure, welcomed the backing, terming it a show of trust from the family.

He pledged to uphold Ng’eno’s vision and focus on key issues affecting residents, including access to water, education, healthcare, and security.

“I am humbled by the trust the Ng’eno family has placed in me. I pledge to serve with integrity and to build on the foundation that Johana laid,” Leguta said.

The latest developments are expected to reshape the contest for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat as campaigns gather momentum ahead of the by-election.
