KUCCPS Updates Private Universities Eligible for HELB Loans

Civil servants seeking to pursue their educational goals and return to class are now eligible to apply for a new loan package unveiled by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) on Wednesday.

In their latest announcement, HELB announced the availability of the Civil Servants Training Revolving Fund, which is targeted at civil servants seeking to pursue their educational goals and enhance their skills in their respective fields of work.

This new opportunity is available to civil servants in different fields, such as the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya Police Service. The eligible candidates are eligible to pursue different levels of study, such as certificate, diploma, higher diploma, and master’s, PhD, and other professional courses. In their announcement, HELB assured candidates that the new loan package is affordable and has a low interest rate.

To be eligible for the new package, one must be a public service employee and already admitted to a local institution recognized by the state. In addition, one must provide a recommendation letter from their employer.

Other required documents include a national ID, KRA PIN, passport photo, and three months’ pay slips. However, the pay slips must be certified and have sufficient income to support the repayment of the loan. Once eligible, one has up to six years to repay the loan. However, one is eligible to settle their loan early.

In addition, the interest rate is capped at four percent. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their details on the HELB online portal. However, one must be cautious and ensure that the course of choice is at the correct level and that one is not placed through KUCCPS (Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service).
