Woman Arraigned Over KSh 3 Million Fake Police Recruitment Scam

A woman was charged in court over an alleged fake recruitment scam by the police that saw several people miss out on an estimated 3 million shillings.

Mercy Prudence Mbaika Mutie was arrested by detectives in Mwea East after several people came out in the press to complain that they had been promised jobs in the national police service.

The matter was first reported to the authorities at Wang’uru Police Station by three people, who claimed that the suspect had promised to assist them in getting jobs in the national police service, but after they handed over the cash, the suspect went out of communication.

The matter was pursued by detectives from the DCI Mwea East, who managed to arrest the suspect.

She was taken to court, where she was charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and three counts of obtaining money under false pretenses.

She was released to the custody of the court on cash bail of 500,000 shillings, with an additional surety of the same amount as the matter continues.

The police once again warn Kenyans to be cautious, especially when they are approached by people claiming that they can assist in getting jobs in the government.

The recruitment of people into the national police service does not involve the payment of any fees, and the process is carried out in an open and fair manner.
