Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been touring key counties, highlighting government development projects that are transforming local communities.
In Taita Taveta on Tuesday, Kindiki inspected the Mwatunge ESP Market in Mwatate Constituency which is now 99% complete.
The project is part of a nationwide plan to construct 400 modern fresh produce markets, featuring cold rooms, meeting halls, lactating mothers’ rooms, and ICT hubs to support e-commerce.
The second-in-Command said these modern markets are designed to provide safe and dignified trading spaces, replacing old facilities that exposed traders to mud, wind, rain, and heat.
“The government is also building the Voi Modern Market at a cost of KSh278 million, alongside ESP markets at Kasigau, Wundanyi, and Taveta, totaling KSh400 million,” he added.
The inspection was attended by Andrew Mwadime, Woman Representative Haika Mizighi, MPs Peter Shake and John Bwire, as well as MCAs and other county leaders.
On Monday, Kindiki also toured Meru, where he addressed residents at Gakoromone Market in North Imenti Constituency, highlighting billions of shillings worth of government projects upgrading infrastructure, boosting trade, and improving access to essential services.
Flagship projects in Meru include the KSh1 billion ultra-modern fresh produce market at Gakoromone, set to become one of the largest agricultural trading hubs in Upper Eastern.
He also highlighted the KSh1 billion expansion of Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, designed to improve specialised healthcare and reduce referrals outside the county.
Further, Kindiki noted progress on the KSh3.7 billion Meru Town link roads, as well as the completed KSh900 million, 10,000-seat Kinoru Stadium, ready for national and international events.
Across all nine constituencies in Meru, the government is implementing KSh39 billion worth of road projects, alongside new electricity connections and additional fresh produce markets.
The Deputy President was accompanied by Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, Deputy Governor Linda Kiome, Woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia, MPs Rahim Dawood, Mpuru Aburi, Dan Kiili, and Dorothy Muthoni, as well as other leaders.
Throughout his tours, Kindiki urged residents in both counties to stay focused on development, emphasizing the government’s commitment to delivering transformative projects that support trade, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, and encouraging continued support for President William Ruto.
