President William Ruto has once again underscored his administration’s commitment to strengthening the country’s education sector, calling human capital development the engine driving Kenya’s long-term transformation.
In a statement seen by Tukio, the President on Tuesday said the government is intentionally investing in equipping young Kenyans with skills that align with the needs of a fast-evolving economy.
He noted that more tutors have been deployed across learning institutions to boost teaching quality and ease staffing shortages that have strained schools and colleges for years.
As part of efforts to expand education infrastructure, President Ruto announced the opening of a new workshops block at PC Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute in Dagoretti South, Nairobi.
The upgraded facility is expected to enhance hands-on training for students pursuing technical and vocational programmes, areas the government considers essential for producing skilled artisans who support Kenya’s industrial growth.
The President added that student accommodation has also been prioritised. His administration has already begun constructing hostels that will house 580 students, with the first phase costing KSh250 million. He noted that proper housing is critical for learners, particularly those from far-flung areas who struggle with high living expenses in urban centres.
At the national level, the government has increased funding for universities and colleges to support ongoing reforms aimed at making higher education more accessible, stable, and sustainable. Adequate financing, the President said, enables institutions to plan better while shielding students from disruptions caused by financial uncertainty.
President Ruto maintained that investing in knowledge and skills is investing in Kenya’s future, stressing that an empowered and confident population is vital for economic growth and national resilience.
“We have hired more tutors, expanded education infrastructure, and improved funding for higher education because human capital development is the primary enabler of our country’s transformation,” he said.
