TECNO Hands Over Three Upgraded Football Pitches in Nairobi

TECNO has handed over three refurbished community football pitches in Nairobi, sparking cheers in Kinyago, Huruma, and Mathare on Wednesday. The upgrading of Kinyago Football Field in Kinyago Football Grounds, Huruma Sports Ground, and the Mathare Area 4 pitch at Heide Marie Primary School was unveiled. The upgrading of a fourth pitch at Mlango Kubwa in Mathare is underway.

The Nairobi project has seen TECNO invest over Sh20 million in the upgrading of the football pitches.

The upgrading of the football pitches has seen artificial grass installed alongside natural grass. In addition, the upgrading has seen the installation of new goal posts and improvement of the sitting areas. The football pitches were previously dusty, uneven, and rough. Such conditions made it difficult for the youngsters in the area who train daily.

While handing over the upgraded pitch at Kinyago Football Grounds, TECNO representative Victor Alufwani said Nairobi is part of a grander vision of upgrading 100 community football pitches across Africa by 2028 under the Dream Field Renovation Initiative. The initiative was born from TECNO’s partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“Football is deeply rooted in African cultures. It’s not just a game; it’s a gateway to opportunity, unity, and growth,” said Alufwani, who highlighted Kenya’s role in the initiative.

Another important aspect was highlighted by Oscar Igaida, Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Youth, Talent, and Sports: “Having good facilities gives young people a platform to channel their energy positively.”

Indeed, coaches working on the pitches already see positive changes. “Renovation has improved training for young players. The dusty field used to cause injuries for players. Sometimes they would even skip training altogether,” said Antony Ombona, a local coach. “Now, the pitch has changed how our players train and play.”

Dream Field has also partnered with other African countries: Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa.

In addition to that, TECNO has become an Official Global Partner of CAF Africa Cup of Nations AFCON 2025 & 2027. The company has now entered professional football in Africa.

With three pitches now ready and another one still being worked on, attention now turns to the young players who will be using the upgraded grounds every day.
