The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has appointed Nashon Kondiwa as its new Director General for a three-year term.
The NTSA Board of Directors said the appointment was made in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Roads and Transport and takes effect from February 17, 2026.
The authority noted that Kondiwa brings more than 22 years of experience spanning information and communication technology (ICT), innovation, public sector leadership, transportation, Intelligent Transport Systems, urban mobility and digital transformation within the road transport sector.
Before his elevation, Kondiwa served as NTSA’s Deputy Director for Information Communication Technology, where he led the authority’s digital transformation agenda and oversaw improvements in service delivery systems.
The board expressed confidence in his leadership, citing his expertise in ICT strategy, transportation management and institutional knowledge as critical to advancing NTSA’s mandate.
“The Board is confident that Mr Kondiwa’s proven expertise in ICT leadership and strategic vision will steer NTSA to even greater heights,” board chairman Khatib Mwashetani said.The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is Kenya’s lead government agency responsible for regulating the road transport sector and promoting road safety nationwide.
According to information published on its official website, the Authority was established under the National Transport and Safety Authority Act, No. 33 of 2012, to harmonise the management of road transport and address the country’s road safety challenges through a coordinated institutional framework.
NTSA operates under the Ministry responsible for transport and is mandated to plan, manage and regulate the road transport system while ensuring the provision of safe, reliable and efficient transport services.
NTSA’s core functions include motor vehicle registration and licensing, driver testing and licensing, regulation of public service vehicles, and promotion of road safety programmes.
The Authority registers and licenses motor vehicles, maintains vehicle ownership records and conducts inspections to ensure roadworthiness. It also oversees the training, testing and licensing of drivers and supervises driving schools and instructors.
