The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, has issued a stern warning to politicians using violence to advance their political interests, saying the government will take decisive action against those behind such acts.
Speaking on Wednesday in Kiawakara, Kirinyaga Central Sub-County, during the commissioning of the new Inoi Division Sub-County headquarters, Murkomen said political violence threatens peace and development and will not be tolerated.
“We must practise the politics of peace and development. We will not allow stone throwing and fighting in churches like it happened recently in Othaya. As a government, we will put a stop to such acts and charge those behind them,” the CS said.
Murkomen directed the Central Kenya Regional Commissioner and the regional security team to crack down on individuals inciting or orchestrating chaos and violence in the region, warning that no one would be spared regardless of political affiliation.
He urged leaders to emulate President William Ruto’s approach of issue-based politics centred on ideas, development, and peaceful engagement, noting that democracy thrives when all leaders are allowed to freely present their policies to the public.
“Every politician must be allowed to sell their policies in peace because, in the end, wananchi will choose what benefits their lives,” Murkomen added.
The CS was accompanied by Kirinyaga Deputy Governor David Githanda, area MP Joseph Gitari, National Administration Principal Administrative Secretary Beverly Opwora, and Members of the County Assembly led by Majority Leader Benson Ngahu among others
