President William Ruto has paid glowing tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a patriot whose life was defined by courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering love for Kenya.

In a statement released on Tuesday, January 7, President Ruto marked what would have been Raila’s 81st birthday, saying the veteran opposition leader consistently placed the country above personal ambition.

“Baba taught us that the nation must always come before self, that no ambition is greater than our unity, and no victory more important than our peace,” Ruto said.

The President noted that Raila remained steadfast in his belief in Kenya’s future, even during periods of political struggle and national tension. He said the late leader always chose stability over chaos, unity over division, and hope over despair.

Ruto further acknowledged Raila’s role in promoting reconciliation during critical moments in the country’s history, saying his legacy continues to shape Kenya’s democratic journey.

“As we remember him on his birthday, we celebrate not just the man but the enduring lessons he left us — to close ranks for the common good, rise above partisanship, and keep faith in the Kenyan dream,” the President stated.
