Individuals arrested for selling illicit liquor will see their assets and vehicles taken over by the government in fresh tougher penalties, announced by President William Ruto.
Ruto said the State would no longer tolerate the destruction of lives caused by illicit brews, noting that those profiting from the trade were undermining public health, security and national development.
“Ukishikwa unabeba pombe haramu hio gari inakua ya serikali,” said Ruto.
He said any assets used or acquired through the illegal liquor business, including cars, would be seized and reverted to the State.

The President said the move was part of a broader strategy to dismantle networks involved in the production and distribution of illicit alcohol.
Ruto noted that previous crackdowns had failed to deliver lasting results because key financiers and distributors were rarely targeted.
By going after their assets, he said, the government intended to cripple the trade economically and deter repeat offenders.
