DP Gachagua Condemns Use of Criminal Justice System for Political Maneuvering

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condemned the re-emergence of using the criminal justice system as a tool for political manipulation, calling it an outdated strategy reminiscent of past political practices.

Speaking at Endarasha during the mass of 21 children in the Hillside Endarasha Academy fire , Gachagua emphasized that both he and President William Ruto pledged to the people of Kenya that they would not allow the criminal justice system to be exploited for political purposes during their administration.

“I am embarrassed that we are back to where we were,” Gachagua remarked, expressing concern over what he described as ongoing harassment directed at his office staff and Members of Parliament associated with him.

He revealed that this harassment has persisted for the past two months, raising alarms about a purported scheme to level false charges against three members of his team, as well as Embakasi North MP Hon. James Gakuya and Embakasi Central MP Hon. Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk.

According to Gachagua, the allegations against his staff and the two MPs are part of a calculated attempt to link them to violent demonstrations that occurred in late June.

He suggested that this move is designed to tarnish his reputation and create a basis for potential impeachment proceedings against him.

“I have learnt of a scheme to prefer trumped-up charges against three members of my staff and the MPs for Embakasi North Hon James Gakuya and Embakasi Central Hon Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk. This evil scheme is to associate them with violent demonstrations that took place in late June, in a futile attempt to soil my name and hopefully create grounds for the mooted impeachment proceedings against me,” he said.

Gachagua called on law enforcement agencies to maintain professionalism, adhere to the rule of law, and steer clear of political entanglements.
