The government has made new leadership changes in a series of state corporations, with various Cabinet Secretaries promoting new individuals in their ministries.
The appointments, contained in the new Kenya Gazette notice, were issued by Cabinet Secretaries Geoffrey Ruku, Julius Ogamba, Aden Duale, Davis Chirchir, Eric Mugaa, and William Kabogo, among others.
Public Service: New Faces at the Gambling Regulatory Authority
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku made four key appointments to the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). The new recruits include Emma Wambui Mbugua, Anne Derasso Illo, Fredrick Odumo Nying’uro, and Valerie Lomosi.
The four will work for three years each, taking the place of Ernest Kamau, Anne Too, Innocent Muganda, Janet Oben, and Edwin Gikunju, whose appointments were revoked in the same notice.
Education Ministry: Kiambati to Head TVET Authority
In the Ministry of Education, Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed Professor Kellen Kathure Kiambati as the new Chairperson of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) Board.
Professor Kiambati, a seasoned education management expert with decades of experience in tertiary education, will serve for four years spearheading reforms in technical and vocational training.
ICT Sector: Kabogo Appoints Njuki to Communications Authority Board
In the Information, Communications and Digital Economy docket, CS William Kabogo appointed Stephen Njuki as a new Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Board member.
Njuki, former Mbeere North politician who contested CS Ruku in 2022 will have a three-year term. His inclusion introduces politics into a board that should run Kenya’s fast ICT and telecoms development.
Health and Water Dockets: Familiar Faces Return
At the Ministry of Health, CS Aden Duale appointed Edwin Gikunju to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Institute of Primate Research. Gikunju, previously on the Gambling Regulatory Authority Board before his appointment was revoked, will hold the position for another three years.
Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation CS Eric Mugaa also appointed yet another former GRA board member, Innocent Muganda, to the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority. Muganda will be in the new role for an equivalent three years.
Transport and Infrastructure: Anne Too Appointed to KCAA Board
In Transport and Roads Ministry, CS Davis Chirchir appointed Anne Too to be in the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) Board of Directors.
Too, the child of late Noah Nondin arap Too, the veteran Director of the now-defunct Criminal Investigations Department (CID), will also serve for three years.
Attorney General’s Office: Ernest Kamau awarded new position
Meanwhile, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor announced the appointment of Ernest Kamau who previously sat in the GRA board to the Business Registration Service (BRS) Board. Kamau will serve for a period of three years.
At the same time, Oduor suspended the appointment of members of the Selection Panel that recommends candidates to serve on the Waqf Commission, showing another round of reshuffle at the State Law Office.
The newest reshuffle forms part of the government’s consistent effort to refresh leadership in key public institutions, bringing in new blood while relocating others in the state machinery.
