Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist and 2015 world javelin champion Julius Yego endured heartbreak at the World Athletics Championships last Thursday, after sustaining an injury during the javelin final.

Yego twisted his ankle during his second throw, which measured 85.54m — a distance that initially secured him a spot among the final six contenders for the title.

The 36-year-old Kenyan star wasn’t the only high-profile athlete to face difficulties. Defending world champion and Tokyo 2021 Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra of India also exited early, unable to continue after his second attempt.

Chopra, who recently returned from shoulder surgery, managed a best throw of 84.03m before bowing out.
