Kenya claimed four gold medals at the recently concluded Africa U-15, U-17, and U-20 Beach Wrestling Championships held at Ain Diab Beach in Casablanca, Morocco.
The medal tally began in the U-15 women’s 65kg category, where Janet Ingwesi Omumasaba secured gold after defeating Angola’s Higida Januairo Leite.
This was followed by Jemmimah Nakhumicha Nanjala, who also clinched gold in the U-17, 65kg division after overcoming Malak Abdelgalil of Egypt in the final.
In the U-15, 50kg category, rising star Shayling Joy earned a silver medal after falling to Algeria’s Maram Yamna in the final.
Meanwhile, Joy Lichuma Wafula captured bronze in the U-17, 55kg category by defeating Senegal’s Ndeye Anna Diata in the third-place match.
Kenya’s third gold came on Friday through U-20 standout Yvonne Lusike Masibo, who dominated Morocco’s Douaa Bhaar in the 60kg division.
The highlight of the championship was an all-Kenyan showdown in the 70kg category, where Faith Wamalwa triumphed over compatriot Devonta Odongo to take gold, with Odongo settling for silver.
