A family in Naivasha has been forced to postpone the burial of their kin after Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika allegedly failed to clear a hospital bill she had promised to settle.
The family of the late Francis Kamau, a boda boda rider, says they are now appealing to well-wishers to help them raise more than KSh 800,000 owed to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
According to relatives, Governor Kihika pledged to assist them during a recent tour of Nakuru, offering hope that the deceased’s body would be released in time for burial. However, with the bill still unsettled, the family says they have been left stranded.
A senior county official has defended the Governor, stating that part of the medical bill has already been paid and that discussions are underway with the hospital management to waive the outstanding balance.
“The Governor has not abandoned the family. Efforts are ongoing to ensure the issue is resolved and the family can bury their loved one with dignity,” the official said.
The delay has left the grieving family in limbo, with relatives expressing frustration over the uncertainty surrounding the burial plans.
Meanwhile, the family has launched an appeal to members of the public, urging well-wishers to step in and help them offset the remaining bill.
