Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki has taken the step of going beyond to state that all government institutions should fully implement the electronic procurement system.

He said the move would be the best tool for creating, maintaining, and overall spending accountability in the public sector.

Kindiki while speaking at the Development Partners Forum that is a meeting of the chief diplomats, cabinet secretaries, and principal secretaries, warned that those officials who would intentionally be found obstructing the transition from manual to e-procurement would be given a severe punishment.

He further said that it was not right for e-procurement to be associated with corruption because the e-procurement system was there to eliminate all the corruption which had been the major causes of the tendering process.

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi echoed the sentiments of Kindiki by asserting that the greatest challenge facing the implementation of the system is the resistance by some officials within the government, thus the continuous manipulation of contracts and embezzlement of funds.

LProfessor Kindiki assured the development partners of the government continued commitment to good governance and to making sure that public resources are used efficiently and responsibly.
